HiLeigh Recommended Vaccine Protocol for Chihuahuas

Remember always do your own research and remember to ask your veterinarian.

Distemper – start at 8-10 weeks – 2 more boosters at 1 month intervals and one last booster at 1 year interval (16 months) adult boosters at 3 year interval or test only for lifetime immunity

Parvo - start at 8-10 weeks – 2 more boosters at 1 month intervals, and one last booster at 1 year interval (16 months) adult boosters at 3 year interval or test only for lifetime immunity

Adenovirus/hepatitis - start at 8-10 weeks – 2 more boosters at 1 month intervals, and one last booster at 1 year interval (16 months) adult boosters at 3 year interval or test only for lifetime immunity

DHPP 4-way vaccine is common, and an alternative to the above individual vaccines but at the same intervals

Rabies – once at 4 months + once at 16 months + then 3 year intervals or check for lifetime immunity

Bordatella & Parainfluenza (kennel cough) – at owner’s discretion. Kennel cough is not a serious disease (like a human cold/flu) Must be repeated annually to be effective. Kennel cough may be caused by other virus not covered by these vaccines. These vaccines may cause illness similar to kennel cough. This vaccine is very similar to the human “flu shot.”

Coronavirus – not recommended

Lepto – not recommended

Don’t vaccinate and worm at the same time

Preferably get the 3rd puppy booster and 1st rabies at separate times
